Creating Your Account

Before you can file documents with the court, you need to create an account on Cott E-Filing. The registration process takes about two minutes.

Step 1: Choose Your Account Type

From the registration page, select the account type that describes you:

Account Type Who Should Choose This
Attorney Licensed attorneys who will file on behalf of clients. You will need your Louisiana Bar Roll Number.
Pro Se Self-represented litigants filing on their own behalf.
Org Admin Organization administrators who manage filings for a firm or government office.
Government Government agencies (District Attorney, public defender, law enforcement). Fee-exempt.

[Screenshot: Account Type Selection] The registration page shows four account type cards — Attorney, Pro Se, Org Admin, and Government — each with a brief description. Select the one that matches your role.

Government attorneys (such as District Attorney offices) — select Org Admin to manage filings for your office, or Attorney if filing individually.

Step 2: Fill In Your Information

Complete the registration form with:

  • First Name and Last Name
  • Email Address — this will be your login and where notifications are sent
  • Phone Number
  • Mailing Address
  • Bar Roll Number (attorneys only) — enter your Louisiana Bar Roll Number (this is validated by the system)
  • Organization Name (org admins only) — the name of your firm or office
  • Password — choose a strong password. The system will show a strength indicator (Weak → Fair → Good → Strong)

Tip: Use a password that is at least 8 characters long and includes a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. "Strong" passwords help protect your account and your clients' information.

Step 3: Complete Registration

Click Create Account. What happens next depends on your account type:

For Attorneys and Org Admins

You will be taken to the sign-in page. Log in with the email and password you just created.

For Pro Se (Self-Represented) Filers

You will see a confirmation screen with your Personal Identification Number (PIN). This PIN is unique to you and may be required for certain filings.

Important: Write down or securely save your PIN immediately. It cannot be recovered if lost.

One Account, All Parishes

Your Cott E-Filing account works across all connected Louisiana parish courts. You do not need separate accounts for each parish — one login lets you file anywhere.

What Happens Next?

Once your account is created, sign in and you will be taken to your Filer Dashboard, where you can begin submitting filings to the court.
